What is a surgical assistant?
A Surgical Assistant assists physicians in surgery by performing certain tasks like opening and closing surgical sites, harvesting grafts, dissecting and removing tissue, and implanting devices to name a few. Under the Occupations Code, the practice of a surgical assistant is limited to surgical assisting performed under the direct supervision of a physician who delegated the acts. The practice of a surgical assistant may be performed in any place authorized by a delegating licensed physician, including a clinic, hospital, ambulatory surgical center, or other institutional setting.
